Eagle Portrait in Ink (Framed)!

My first commisioned piece has finally been framed! This picture was taken at a fellow blogger’s house, where it has been proudly displayed. I am very excited and a tad nervous about finally starting to get my work out there, and hope I can continue to build on this in the coming months! 🙂

Random Inspiration

Even though I have been away for a while, this blog post is proof that I am still alive and kickin’! Life has been a little difficult lately, but despite the setbacks, I am still finding time for myself  and my creativity. I took myself on a little tour of my room yesterday, attempting to find inspiration for my next little projects. This is what I found….

Pastel-coloured socks and buttons for the making of my sock-monkeys….

Skull brooch by Pegeggleg, an Edinburgh artist whose work I LOVE! I have named my skull Skeletor, and he currently resides on my vintage dressing table, too cute to be worn just yet!

Hand-made teddy-rabbit, so sweet. So much care has been put into creating these! The cute little details below are awesome!

This illustration belongs to a flyer promoting a reggae club night. I saw it and everything about it made me want to pull out pen and paper and create my own quirky characters! 

All The Small Things…

Small things – our whole world is made up of these tiny little building blocks, and they are to be found everywhere, forming and making up every part of our earthly existence. As part of this month’s topic over at the wonderful Creative Everyday 2011 Challenge, Small, I have put together this series of every day small things and moments I am grateful for. This is to remind me that everywhere I look, wherever I am, whatever I do, there is more to my world than meets the eye, and joy really can be found in the small and simple things!

A single page when bound with many others, brings me the beauty of my notebooks, on which I write the stories of my life, composed by the tiny details of my daily events, all lovingly recorded in small, loopy handwriting all over the lovely lined pages

One tiny berry by tiny berry can I create a healthy body from the inside out, made up of teeny tiny essential vitamins and minerals I can’t even see! But I know they are there when I see the healthy skin and happy glow when I look into the mirror!

The  vibrant petals of the beautiful spring flowers, delicate and elegant, open to receive each new day

Little creatures come out to play in the spring sunshine- the joy of  watching the lady beetle sunning herself on my white-washed window-sill!

The delicate detail on my silver bracelet – those little, hand-crafted swirls are too cute, and make me smile whenever I wear it!

I Heart Baking!

After buying a bag of wholegrain spelt flour over the weekend, I decided to enter the foray of baking my own bread this afternoon. With all my recent mishaps in the kitchen lately ( I have burnt everything from rice to spinach pies and pizza!), this could have been a lil’ bit of a disaster. But surprisingly, it turned out better than I could have imagined. Check out the evidence below, and if you’re like me, you might even be brave enough to give this a try ( It’s very, very simple!).

Ingredients:

500g Wholegrain Spelt flour ( I chose an organic brand)

1/2 tbsp sea salt

1tbsp yeast

1tbsp honey

400ml warm water

1tbsp rice bran oil ( the original recipe says olive oil, but I use rice bran for all the extra Vitamin E )

Steps to a delicious spelt bread:

The first step is to mix the flour, yeast, and salt together in a bowl. Mixing in a heart shape is totally optional!

Once you have mixed the dry ingredients, dissolve the honey in the warm water, and stir in roughly. Next, in goes the oil – be very careful to mix this in thoroughly. This is where the trusty wooden spoon gets put to good use! Next comes the fun part….the kneading! Knead your dough for a few minutes, then put to rest inside your favorite cake or baking tin. Leave aside in a warm place for 25 mins to give the dough a chance to rise.

Once the dough has risen, it is ready for the oven. In a pre-heated oven with a temperature of 200 degrees, place your bread, to be baked to perfection for between 35-40 minutes.

Now you are ready to enjoy your labour of love! Take gently out of the oven, place on a cooling rack for a few minutes, then carefully cut and enjoy however you choose. I had mine with yummy wholegrain mustard and salad…delish!
